United Nations Chief to Celebrate End of UN Peace Operations in Sierra Leone

FREETOWN, 25 February – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Sierra Leone on 4-6 March 2014, at the invitation of the Government of Sierra Leone. The UN Secretary-General will attend a ceremony to close the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL) after fifteen years of successive UN peace operations and mark the transition to a United Nations presence focused on development.

During his second official visit to Sierra Leone, Secretary-General Ban will meet the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Samura Kamar, the diplomatic community, representatives of political parties, civil society and other national stakeholders as well as the UN Family in the country.
